Zahra, Early Childhood Educator
About Zahra
Zahra, founder of April Daycare, has 30+ years of experience with young children and preschoolers. She holds ECE, Special Needs and Infant & Toddler certificates and is registered with the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
A lifelong learner with a Master of Early Childhood Education from UBC, Zahra prioritizes a safe, nurturing environment for children under care. She highlights children’s social & emotional development while supporting learning through play, guided by her belief that “play is the highest form of research.”

One of Zahra’s proudest accomplishments is Together in Childcare, a platform she created to walk alongside parents and educators, providing resources, workshops, and guidance to strengthen care, learning, and emotional well-being for children.
Highlights of Philosophy
At April Daycare, we believe early experiences shape children’s growth, well-being, and lifelong love of learning. Our approach includes:

  • Safe, supervised environments with high standards of hygiene and nutrition
  • Support social-emotional skills through play, songs, role play, and story time
  • Acknowledge children’s feelings and foster curiosity and creativity
  • Fun, hands-on arts and crafts like collage, painting, and play-dough
  • Balanced indoor and outdoor play opportunities
  • Share photos, portfolios, and updates based on parents’ priorities

Multi-age Program

April Daycare is a Multiage program. We provide care for children from 12/18 month to kindergarten.
In such a program:
  • children have the opportunity to observe each other’s activities,
  • learn from each other, and
  • enhance one another’s abilities in different areas, such as helping others and empathizing with others (although it might seem too early for their age).
A multiage program:
  • eliminates competition, and
  • the one-fits-all mindset.
The mixed age play and learning bring forward
  • the uniqueness of children in their development, encouraging children to develop strong bonds with others not only of their age.
  •  support for children's cooperation and stamina as they observe and support peers in the areas that they feel their friend might need support, such as bringing the water bottle to a hurt friend or explaining a concept to another person.
To sum up, this kind of program supports peer-to-peer interactions and helps them advance their social, emotional and academic skills. Carrying the routine gives older children the ability to become mentors to the younger ones by enhancing their self-worth as they support others who need them, which in turn supports the older ones to become more independent.
