Zahra, Early Childhood Educator
About Zahra
Thank you for taking the time and visiting April Daycare website, founded by Zahra.

Zahra is originally from Iran, with 30+ years of experience, working with young children and preschoolers.
She holds:
  • aMaster's Degree in English,
  • ECE, and Infant & Toddler certificates
  • a valid certificate registered with the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Besides, as a strong believer in lifelong learning,
  • she perused a Master of Early Childhood Education at UBC. (click here for reading her graduation e-portfolio; click here to see her graduation day picture- third person first row right to left).

She has been there! A desperate mom looking for somewhere safe and nurturing to leave her beloved daughter to run errands, go to work or study, and sometimes just to have a very short "me time".

At April Daycare children's emotional development is the first priority along with so many other areas, such as physical, literacy and social skills, to name a few.
Zahra strongly advocates Einstein's quote "play is the highest form of research".

Highlights of Our Philosophy
Being aware of the fact that children’s early experiences form the habit of life enjoyment in childhood, and later life success or tragedies, health and well-being, April daycare offers services with the following fundamental beliefs:
full supervision of children, settings and activities
  • high standard of safety, hygiene and nutrition
  • enhancing socializing and emotional awareness by encouraging discussions about feelings and having interactions with peers through both free and structural play, songs, role play and story time
  • providing the atmosphere in which children's feelings are acknowledged and their thirst for learning is responded to and multiplied
  • fun and motivating arts and crafts activities, such as making collage, painting and play dough
  • accommodating the environment so that children can benefit from indoor and outdoor play
  • sending photos, portfolios and follow up reports based on parents' priorities and requests
  • being spontaneous and catching any moment to foster children's experience, focusing on their thoughts, imaginations, creativity and interests

We might have spots available for children older than 24 months soon. Get in touch...

Multi-age Program

April Daycare is a Multiage program. We provide care for children from 12/18 month to kindergarten.
In such a program:
  • children have the opportunity to observe each other’s activities,
  • learn from each other, and
  • enhance one another’s abilities in different areas, such as helping others and empathizing with others (although it might seem too early for their age).
A multiage program:
  • eliminates competition, and
  • the one-fits-all mindset.
The mixed age play and learning bring forward
  • the uniqueness of children in their development, encouraging children to develop strong bonds with others not only of their age.
  •  support for children's cooperation and stamina as they observe and support peers in the areas that they feel their friend might need support, such as bringing the water bottle to a hurt friend or explaining a concept to another person.
To sum up, this kind of program supports peer-to-peer interactions and helps them advance their social, emotional and academic skills. Carrying the routine gives older children the ability to become mentors to the younger ones by enhancing their self-worth as they support others who need them, which in turn supports the older ones to become more independent.
